...boy, could Test Match Special do with a bit of extra bite. I wrote last year how much the show was missing the Guardian's cricket writer Mike Selvey after he was dropped from its rota of pundits. And it is still missing him.
That's right, it's John Plunkett, Mike Selvey's colleague from, er, The Guardian.
Among his many duties on the paper, Plunkett writes the Media Monkey column which occasionally sheds light on the nepotism and old-pals act which fuels the often self-congratulatory media merry-go-round.

I actually agree with Plunkett and think Selvey is an oustanding commentator on the game of cricket, but for obvious reasons it is not the Guardian's job to say that. Although it's true, the credibility nosedive brought about by 'Guardian says Guardian man is great' style claims does the paper a disservice.
The braver and more credible stance would have been to sit back and hope others come to Selvey's defence.
