The Press Association reports this morning:
"Jailed pop star George Michael has been transferred to a softer Category C prison. The former Wham! star was moved out of Pentonville Prison on Friday after abandoning plans to apply for bail."
"After being sentenced, Michael was taken to Pentonville, where former inmates have included Oscar Wilde and fellow 1980s singer Boy George."
So it's the gay prison?
The piece goes on to state that the Minstry of Justice would not comment on the reasons for Michael's move, but perhaps the rather forced allusion to his sexuality suggests PA may have its own ideas. It's entirely possible of course George Michael was sent to Pentonville becase it is less than a mile from Highbury Corner Magistrates and his subsequent move was entirely standard practice.
As an aside, if they were just looking for celebrity jailbirds, PA could have mentioned another alumnus of Pentonville is media favourite Pete Doherty.
But then what's George Michael got in common with a singer who was once part of a successful group who has been troubled by drug addiction and arrested for drug and driving related offences in the past? Almost nothing compared to the stunning similarities between George Michael and Oscar Wilde.
