'Scientific' research from the US has claimed, among other things, there is a point where female newsreaders become too sexually attractive for some men to fully digest the stories they are reporting.
Researchers from Indiana University claim:
"The sexual attractiveness of female news anchors distracts from memory formation for news content."
In short, stick an attractive anchorwoman on the news and she might as well be speaking a foreign language as far as the majority of men are concerned.
But it doesn't matter, because they'll probably still tune in anyway, right?
The 'science' behind this revolved around one woman dressed up in two different outfits reading out the same news broadcast. The difference between the outfits appears to be the tightness of her clothing and the amount of make-up and jewellery she wore.
Hence the inverted commas around 'science'.
The researchers then randomly assigned just 400 subjects, both men and women, to watch one of the broadcasts and answer questions about the content.
Lo! and behold men were better than women at remembering what the dressed down newsreader said but became gibbering wrecks faced with the dolled up newsreader and could barely remember their own names.
I paraphrase.
