A former Guardian technology journalist, Bobbie Johnson, has fired off an angry Tweet this afternoon flagging what he suggests is a case of plagiarism between rival newspapers.
Certainly the two articles Johnson highlights, both about a book (Alone Together by Sherry Turkle) which criticises the effect of social networks on human relationships, are very similar, though other explanations could include some verbatim repurposing of spoonfed press releases by both parties of course.
Either way, at least one publication has been cutting (and pasting) some corners. We can rule out coincidence.
The Telegraph article, by far the shorter of the two and not bylined, has a time stamp of 1:14pm on 23rd January. The Observer piece written by Paul Harris, has a time stamp of 9pm on 22nd January as it appears on the Guardian website.
