You may have heard, former television presenter Jim Davidson will no longer be taking part in Celebrity Big Brother which begins tonight on Channel 5.
Channel 5 is of course owned by Richard Desmond, proprietor of the Daily Star which has been running all sorts of Jim Davidson-related stories to promote the start of the reality TV show, including this offering which actually appeared on the front page of the paper:
"CELEBRITY Big Brother star Jim Davidson plans to win over viewers who think he is homophobic by admitting he once had sex... with a Thai ladyboy whom he thought was a girl."
However, the paper's apparent enthusiasm about Davidson's participation appears to have dwindled over the last few of days. Here is how the paper has referred to Davidson in recent stories:
31 December: "Celebrity Big Brother star..."
1 January: "Celeb Big Brother..."
2 January: "Comedian..."
3 January: "The controversial comic..."
By the time Davidson appeared on the front page of the Daily Star this morning there was almost no mention of any relationship with Desmond's flagship TV programme. The Star's story claimed only that Davidson had been "tipped to be in the line-up for Channel 5's Celebrity Big Brother tonight", despite the paper telling us on 31 December: "[Davidson] has signed to Channel 5's new series of Celebrity Big Brother".
